How It Works:
Ridesharing is a voluntary form of alternative transportation, where drivers and riders connect at designated sites to arrange rides. sjRIDESHARE sites are located in strategic locations where there is adequate visibility and shoulder space for riders to safely wait and be seen, and for cars to safely pull out of traffic and stop. Check our system maps and site lists for location details.
While sjRIDESHARE is recognized and endorsed by the Town of Friday Harbor and San Juan County, WA, there is no registration or formal screening for the participants. Participants are responsible for their own good judgment, and are encouraged to demonstrate respectful behavior.
Please read our "Guidelines and Tips for Safe Commuting", designed to encourage safe and effective participant etiquette. Riders and drivers make their own determination of appropriate rides to take or offer.
Wearable buttons and safety guideline cards are available for riders. For drivers, vinyl static stickers are available to display on windshields, showing sjRIDESHARE support. Displaying a sticker does not obligate a driver to stop for a rider, it is always completely up to their personal judgment and discretion.
